Dine in Harmony...
Summer days have come and gone in a flurry of excitement and now Autumn is descending like a blanket of cool relief.
Temperatures are dropping, darkness is arriving a little earlier each night and our seasonal produce is hitting a bountiful high.
Kitchen gardens that supply many of our local restaurants have come to life after enduring a long dry summer and some delicious Autumn flavours are now appearing on the menus.
An event that everyone MUST celebrate is Mother s Day or Mother s May as we like to call it.
Surely every Mum deserves more than just one day of pampering All Mum s and Grandma s should be well and truly spoilt at this time of year and I m looking forward to an indulgent family gathering at one of my favourite Peninsula restaurants.
We were also recently reminded of the cultural diversity we have in Australia with A Taste of Harmony and National Harmony Day encouraging people of different cultural backgrounds to share food and stories together.
In our region, we are fortunate to have many top Chefs hailing from overseas shores and sharing with us their amazingly authentic dishes from many parts of the world.
So for all those ardent armchair travellers out there, rest assured that you can experience cuisine from a multitude of countries without having to step a foot off Peninsula soil.
Let s visit Italy....
Everyone is talking about DOPPIOZERO, a newcomer to our restaurant scene at the old Coolstores property in Moorooduc.
Opening in January, word has quickly spread that this new venture by Claudio and Marisa of Ciao Bella fame is the place to go for authentic Italian cuisine including their sensational thin based pizzas.
With an intimate wine bar alongside spacious contemporary dining, relax and enjoy some of their amazing antipasto or famous Nutella and banana dessert pizza with family and friends.
For those closer to Balnarring, CIAO BELLA continues to offer their award winning pizza range with daily specials inspired by produce from their onsite kitchen garden.
Transport yourself to a little part of Italy while enjoying their casual and relaxed dining experience.
Closing in early April to make this venue even more Bella , make sure you book early for a table when they reopen for dinner on April 12th.
Another hugely popular Italian eatery is MANHATTAN IN MORNINGTON offering an extensive menu of modern Mediterranean inspired cuisine.
Thrilled to welcome two new Chefs there will be some fabulous changes to their Autumn menu including the return of seafood boullibasse and their delicious duck risotto.
Italian born pastry chef Christian will be preparing some mouth-wateringly authentic pizzas and desserts while Kate Shelton will be introducing some country style recipes, many of which can be found in her cookbook Love of a Laminex Table .
Make sure you join their facebook page to stay in touch with great events here like Wednesday night live entertainment from the sensational Chris Fatourus and Thursday night movie nights where you can vote for your favourite movie screening.
Fine dining Italian experiences don t come much better than those provided by Chef Mario Tavian at BEL SORRISO.
Recently marrying his beautiful partner Stephanie who expertly runs front of house, the food here is exceptional with absolutely everything made onsite from fresh pure ingredients.
Mario s signature spaghettini fruitti di mare is a taste sensation and goes far beyond a traditional marinara.
Other popular dishes include their delicious pork belly risotto or their grilled seafood platter which is available for one or two people.
And I strongly suggest you leave room for dessert here.....these are some of the most amazing combinations I ve seen in a very long time.
Italian Independence Day is a good reason to celebrate and Bel Sorriso are hosting a Dinner and Show on Friday 30th May.
Already getting booked up, this ticketed event offers a three course meal with entertainment from Citi Opera s Mezzo Soprano Lucy Nicolson at 85 per person.
Mother s Day is another popular occasion here and this year they are open all day serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Book early to spoil Mum with an extensive buffet breakfast, or choose from the a la carte menu for both lunch and dinner.
....
or France The new look BISTRO MAISON Larder Bar has just re-opened its doors with a gorgeous new funky image.
Local artwork appears on the walls, handmade cage lights adorn the ceiling and high bar tables provide a great space to indulge in a few cocktails and share plates.
Their lighter style menu has moved away from heavy French flavours with many shared and single items such as the heirloom tomato salad or paella of prawn and snails.
Perfect for an after work cocktail or glass of wine, also check out their well stocked larder with many speciality items for sale which are produced in house.
Up in the hills, LA PETANQUE will transport you to the rolling countryside of Tuscany or Provence.
With floor to ceiling windows and amazing views overlooking the estate vineyard, this destination provides stunning French food prepared by Head Chef Daniel Kerekes.
New to their Autumn menu are entree dishes like seared Atlantic scallops with celery, green apple, radishes, Thai curry gel and wasabi sorbet or for main course Free range Otway pork belly with blue swimmers crab dumpling, sauerkraut, apple jelly, sweet and sour glaze .....absolutely divine well worth a visit A taste of Asia....
If Asian is something you ve been craving, GINSENG in Frankston always hits the mark.
With a menu inspired from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Vietnam and Thailand, this is an outstanding restaurant on the Peninsula.
Their extensive menu has many favourites including wasabi king prawns, homemade dim sim or pan-tossed calamari in spicy salt.
Customers are welcomed like members of the family and it s no surprise that many have been returning for years.
For those closer to Mornington, you can t go past RESTAURANT SOY for yo ur Asian fix.
After spending a lovely night here some weeks ago, I can highly recommend their famous Peking duck pancakes which are a mouth watering taste sensation.
Coming into the cooler weather, they have some fantastic midweek lunch specials on offer for 15 or less.
The true Chinese comfort food - steaming bowls of hearty soup with noodles will be available in different varieties every few days....perfect to warm you up on a cold afternoon.
Plus a two basket yum cha selection with glass of house wine special will be available.
