Next G™ Up & Running
As the Area General Manager for the Peninsula,
I frequently get asked why Telstra has built the
Next G™ network and why are we closing down
the CDMA network.
The answer is simple – to make sure our customers
remain ahead of the game. The decision was based
on global trends that showed industry users were
moving away from aging CDMA technology and
that Next G™ technology was quickly becoming
the global technology of choice.
With Telstra’s $1.1 billion investment and our
technology choice, Australia now has the fastest
national mobile network in the world enjoying
greater coverage, faster speeds & applications like
video calling & wireless broadband.
On the Peninsula we have already upgraded
every existing CDMA & GSM site with the Next
G™ network coverage and have further extended
coverage at Cranbourne South, Langwarrin Plaza,
Mornington East and Frankston Heights.
We will not switch off the CDMA network until
the Next G™ network offers the same or better
coverage. Telstra expects to reach this milestone
in October 2007 and intends to close the CDMA
mobile network on 28 January 2008.
Over the next few months we will continue to test,
monitor and fine tune the Next G™ network to get it
absolutely right for our customers. In the meantime,
I encourage customers with Next G™ coverage
issues to let the local Telstra team know by using
the Bright Spot / Black Spot website at
http://www.telstra.com/coveragefeedback or by
calling Telstra on 125 111.
