10 (or 11) year reunion Focusing on Life Long Skills at St Leonard's
for Woodleigh Students.
Woodleigh School Students who graduated in
1996 and 1997 from what was then known as
St Paul’s School ‘Woodleigh’ are encouraged
to return to the Baxter campus on Sunday, 16
September from 1.30pm for a get together and
catch up of old friends.
Whilst it probably doesn’t seem so, ten (or eleven)
years is a long time, and days such as these prove
to be great fun for all who make it along.
So bring your families and your partners and
regale them with tales of Happy Buses and
Hattah, the ‘Three R’s’ and the ‘One percenters’…
There’ll be a BBQ on, and BYO drinks.
Remember families & partners are very welcome!
If you can make it, please RSVP
by September 12 to the school on 5971 1108
or email to aliddiard@woodleigh.vic.edu.au
and we’ll see you there!
A few years ago St Leonard’s College
identified a need for students to develop
lifelong skills, knowledge and an appreciation
of sustainability issues. The College’s campus
at Patterson River (ELC to year 10) has become
the focus of a unique curriculum that now
incorporates sustainability programs into all
aspects of campus life.
Sustainability relates to ways of thinking about
the world & forms of social and personal practice.
Fundamental to
the notion of
educating for
sustainability
is the belief that
every individual is
capable of
making a difference
in a positive way.
They have an extensive program of student
leadership and a well established program of
community service which see students working
on a weekly basis in nursing homes, opportunity
shops, animal shelters and adopting a number of
social service organisations including the support
of a World Vision child.
ELC TO YEAR 6 PROGRAM
St Leonard’s are now accredited to present the
IB Primary Years Programme which allows them
to consolidate their global outlook. Primary
students design gardens, care for baby animals,
help with recycling and work with their older
‘buddies’ in projects around the school.
In addition, there is a special EcoKids project for
our year 3 and 4 students. All of their studies are
taught in context of the environment. They have
their own kitchen garden where they plan, plant,
cook and eat their produce.
SECONDARY PROGRAM
In addition, to their multidisciplinary program,
all year 7 and 8 students study environmental
education. All year 9 and 10 students work
with teachers and the school chaplain in a global
sustainability program. They explore big issues
in the world such as wealth and poverty and its
connection to terrorism, global economics, effects
of global warming, impacts of civil wars and other
current issues as they arise.
In 2006 the new sustainability centre was
constructed to provide a place for research
and reflection on these and other issues. This
is a centre displaying the latest environmentally
friendly building design and building technology.
